Ryan Tofil

Acting Teacher

 Ryan TofilRyan has trained and has been working with MCS since 2000.  He has assisted on many studio projects and shows and eventually started teaching the Meisner method with Matthew in 2003.  He currently teaches his own acting class at MCS on Wednesday nights, and co-teaches with Matthew on Thursday nights.  Former classes taught at MCS include a preteen class as well as a writer’s workshop.  Ryan has also taught and directed preteens at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA).  He has also directed preteens in two main-stage shows at The Barshop Jewish Community Center in 2008.  Ryan also teaches Special Education in the NYC public school system.

As an actor, Ryan has performed in numerous regional theatre, tours and off-off Broadway productions. Favorite acting credits include Andrew in Nicky Silver’s THE MAIDEN’S PRAYER, Perchik in FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, Austin in John Patrick Shanley’s THE BIG FUNK, and Charles in the premier of Bill C. Davis’s AUSTIN’S BRIDGE.  In 2010 Ryan created and sang SONGS NINA SANG, a tribute to Nina Simone and BEFORE THE RAINBOW, dedicated to the early songs Judy Garland, both at the San Antonio Country Club.

Ryan holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in musical theatre at the New School University, with an additional focus on creative writing. Many of his poems and theatrical works have been work-shopped and performed at MCS.  He co-wrote and performed in the critically acclaimed MISS KIM, THE PLAY which was produced through MCS and fringeNYC in 2010.  He is currently working on writing a play based on the life of Randy Roberts Potts, the gay grandson of legendary televangelist Oral Roberts.  Randy Roberts Potts IT GETS BETTER is anticipated to be produced through MCS fall 2011.
